Mystery Skype: Passport to Global Citizenship

Thursday, September 29, 2016

Skypers!
The concurrent trend requires learners to participate globally in order to be competitive, learned and at the same time grounded in the values of their own country. Although it is a big word or big ambition you might think but it is inevitable not to embrace the concept. Of late, the development of social media transcends across the generation. The need to feel connected and creating influence fuel our further need of social media. In a way, it feeds on our nature of human being, being social.

The first mystery Skype between SK Simpang Ampat, Perlis and Redlands School in Sydney was a stepping stone for the pupils towards obtaining global citizenships. During the preparation up to the event proved to me that these learners have potentials to work on. I find the activity managed to unfold hidden talents, broaden pupils view on the world and enriched their language learning.

Opening the classroom to the world is one of the cultures in 21 Century Learning. This view is aligned with our 6 Aspirations in the Malaysia Educational Blueprint. The project aspires to ignite the pupils' leadership skills, dual-language competency, empower knowledge, fostering good ethics, encourage higher order thinking skills and embracing national identity. The pupils are expected to ask questions in order to locate the caller, using their background knowledge of world culture and navigating their way through the world map.

Congratulations to these young lads, I'm glad to have this Skype Call with you! Can't wait to Skype again!
