Well, learning vocabulary is not restricted to these 4 techniques. But by identifying the techniques help teachers to focus on the TnL and give the students something to hold on to.
I find explicit training in vocabulary works because it made you aware of the process and how to go about in doing it. No more time wasted on try and error method that frustrate a lot of our students. In this post, I will identify the techniques and elaborate on how to do it.
You can choose to apply one technique at a time or try all in the chronological order of my elaboration.

Let us look at the first one
WORD MAGNET

| Write and draw the words you want or need to learn |
Stick it on the fridge door.
Say each word for 5 times, every time you open the fridge door.
RECORD YOURSELF
Before you record, plan your video. What do you want to say? Maybe say the words, its meaning by showing pictures or even gestures. Be creative!
When you are done the planning, record your video in a duration of 15 to 30 seconds. A short video will serve the purpose just fine.
Replay the video to listen to the pronunciation. if you are dissatisfied, re-record.
Watch the video over and over again. or share it with your friends on social media. Who knows, with the motivation of 'likes' you might learn your vocabulary effectively.
PLAY GAMES
There are a lot of vocabulary games available. Here are some great ones which I found on the internet.

To practice effectively, we need to practice with the people around us. The safest bet would be our friends and our teachers. I am not saying you can't practice with others but, friends and teachers will be a good place, to begin with.
Choose a topic for practice on a particular day, practice using the same vocabulary over and over again. Observe others reaction towards your pronunciation and usage. We need to practice with other people because it provides instant feedback. Encourage your friends to help you practice.
I hope these suggestions will get you motivated to master your vocabulary. There are no shortcuts to mastery and I hope you are up to it. Every language learners will need to do and redo these steps even their language mastery has become better after some time.

I am not sure how many of you agree with this, but this was how I learned my lesson. Being in 2 competitions this year has toughened me up. I am not a shy person, or so I think, but I have doubts on myself and the things I do, professionally. Therefore by participating, it was some sort of self-validation.
These competitions gathered ambitious people around the country, showcasing their innovations and flaunting their successes. I feel so small in these competitions, especially the one I participated recently, the International Learning Innovation Competition held at Universiti Utara Malaysia. For a start, the crowd was much bigger and most of the innovations were commercialized and have captured a market section of their own. This was one of the assessment criteria in the competition.

Once again, Perky Piung had the chance to grace the competition arena and interacted with a lot of people who graciously gave some ideas and feedback on how to make the programme better. These were the things that we really want when we got ourselves registered. Being on your own, contemplating things by yourselves was not satisfying as hearing from others. Insya Allah, those inputs will be considered and I believe we can do better and go further.

Oh ya, for this competition, we made an addition to the programme. It was both exciting and challenging journey creating this new addition. I shall tell you more in the next post.

This happened during Karnival Kreativiti dan Inovasi PdPc Peringkat Kebangsaan 2019 held at IPGM Kampus Sultan Mizan last month. It was an eye-opening event for both of us. Mind you, although Perky Piung is a doll, I always considered her as a separate entity from me. Haha

We came into the event with no expectation to win prizes, we only hope to spread words about our programme and get people to participate. We also wanted to learn about others' innovation and make contacts and broaden our networking.
The 2-day event began with judging on the first day and the result came out on the second day. Participants were located in the same hall with some separation between the categories. Perky Piung and I contested in the teacher category.
What amazed us were the contestant from the students' category. They exhibited maturity in their presentation about the product they have invented. Both of us grilled them with questions! Most of them said that their project was a product of classroom teaching and learning activities which was further developed into something better. Some of them were able to secure a partnership with universities to develop and market their product. AMAZING.
We were glad we took a leap of faith and try our hands in this event. The people who took part in this event were supportive of others and highly motivated. You can feel the air of positivity in the hall and the excitement to share ideas and possible collaboration.
Looking back, Perky Piung and I understand that we have a long way ahead of us. We need to do a lot more to keep up with the current trends of education in this era. It is not easy to keep learners motivated by doing just one thing because this generation has traits so dynamic that you can't even foresee where it is going to go. Until then, keep on innovating!

Hi and Welcome. Below is the survey for the Perky Piung Words Adventure Programme. If you have joined our programme, kindly provide some feedback in the form below. Thanks!
As a HIP initiative this year, I would like to get as many participants to this project. Basically, it is about the teaching and learning of vocabulary. In this project, Piung will travel to schools to learn new words that she can use in her travel. Pupils will teach her words and it will be recorded on video by the teacher.
For the moment, two schools took part in this project namely SK Menerong and SK Landas. I am grateful that they have accepted to be the pioneer and help Piung to get words adventure started. I hope she can venture to other schools in the district and across the world, in the future. There are a lot of learning needs to be done and Piung learning opportunity is inexhaustive.
