🌈 GOOD VALUES, GREAT FRIENDS: 2026 PBL JOURNEY WITH PERKY PIUNG

Building friendships, practising kindness and learning good values!
What makes someone a good friend? Is it sharing, helping, showing kindness or standing up for others?
These questions inspired my latest Project-Based Learning (PBL) initiative with my Year 3 pupils at SK Kesom!
Our project, "How to Be a Good Friend in School", focuses on helping pupils understand and practise positive friendship values through meaningful English language activities.
With our little friend, Perky Piung 🐢, joining the adventure, we hope to make learning more engaging, meaningful and fun!
💚 What is this PBL about?
This project connects with the Ministry of Education's Kami Benci Buli initiative.
Instead of focusing only on negative behaviours, we want pupils to discover how they can make a difference through kindness, respect, honesty, sharing, caring, helpfulness, patience, fairness, courage and gratitude.
Our ultimate goal? To nurture pupils who know what it means to be a good friend and practise these values in their everyday school lives.
🗓️ Our Four-Week Journey
Here's a little preview of what we will be doing!
Week 1: Understanding Friendship – Exploring feelings and discovering what makes a good friend.
Week 2: Discovering Kindness – Learning about positive friendship values.
Week 3: Practising Good Values – Expressing ideas through reading and writing.
Week 4: Sharing Our Friendship Message – Creating a scrapbook and presenting our learning.
⭐ WEEK 1: LET'S GET STARTED!
Our first week is all about understanding friendship!
Here's the flow of our Week 1 activities:
🐢 Project Launch: Meet Perky Piung and explore a friendship story.
💭 Understanding Feelings: Discuss friendship situations and recognise how others feel.
💚 Discovering Values: Explore the values of a good friend.
🎭 Role-Play: Act out friendship situations and practise positive responses.
🎵 PBL Theme Song: Sing along and celebrate the message of friendship!
Through these activities, pupils begin to understand that being a good friend is not just about what we say, but also what we do.
📚 Resources for Teachers
Would you like to try some of these activities with your own pupils?
I'm sharing my Week 1 lesson notes and teaching resources below. Feel free to explore, adapt and use them in your classrooms!
More resources will be shared as we progress through the project!
💚 A Little Message to End With...
I hope this little PBL journey reminds our pupils that even the smallest act of kindness can make someone's day brighter.
Let's help our children become not just better learners, but better friends too!
GOOD VALUES, GREAT FRIENDS!
One little action can make a big difference. 🌈🐢
Stay tuned for our next PBL update!
