First Days with 2Z 🌿✨

Saturday, June 14, 2025

This week, I had the pleasure of meeting Class 2Z for English πŸ’šπŸ“š. First classes are always a mix of excitement and curiosity—on both sides! πŸ˜„πŸ€“ But starting with smiles 😁 and a bit of structure πŸ“‹ really helps ease everyone in.

Before we dived into anything, I took a moment to let them know how sorry I was for being away for so long πŸ˜’πŸ’¬. I explained that I had broken my wrist πŸ€• and their responses were so sweet it melted my heart πŸ’–πŸ₯Ή.

They asked the kindest little questions:

  • “Does it still hurt, teacher?” πŸ₯Ί

  • “Can you write yet?” ✍️

And some just gave me big, warm smiles 😍. It was such a lovely moment of connection πŸ€πŸ’«.

I also reminded them gently to be careful in the bathroom 🚻🧼—accidents can happen so fast, especially on slippery floors! πŸ˜¬πŸ’¦ Safety first, always! πŸ›‘πŸ‘Ÿ

We kicked off the English lesson with a cheerful greeting 🎢 and a quick intro. I gave them a light vocabulary warm-up 🧠—nothing too heavy, just classroom language we’ll be using a lot πŸ’¬πŸ–️.

Plan to do it every day!

Then it was group work time! πŸ§‘‍🀝‍πŸ§‘πŸ‘©‍πŸ‘§‍πŸ‘¦

We explored the calendar together—day, date, month πŸ“…πŸ—“️. I asked them to brainstorm what they already knew πŸ§ πŸ’ and invited brave volunteers to write on the board πŸ§‘‍🏫✏️. The enthusiasm was so lovely to see! πŸ˜„πŸ‘

Next up: Spell-Robic! πŸ•ΊπŸ“£

We got moving and grooving with the days of the week and the months of the year πŸ’ƒπŸ—“️πŸ•°️. I’ve featured Spell-Robic before, but I’ll definitely post a demo video πŸŽ₯ soon—it’s way easier to show than tell! πŸ˜…πŸŽ¬

Midway through, I introduced our class attention-getter:

🎀 “1-2-3, eyes on me!”

πŸ‘€ “1-2-3, eyes on you!”

We practised it a few times and had so much fun with it πŸ˜†πŸ§‍♀️. It really helped us get our focus back quickly! ✨

We ended the day with a vocab revision on parts of houses 🏠πŸͺŸπŸ›️. Most of them nailed it! πŸ’ͺ Which means… I think we’re ready to tackle those exam questions next week! πŸ’―πŸ“–

The next day, we dove into colours 🎨🌈 and items from the textbooks. I used my iPad to project images πŸ“²πŸ–Ό️, and we used them to build sentences together ✍️πŸ“š.

We:

  1. Drew the object ✏️

  2. Coloured it based on instructions πŸŸ€πŸ”΄πŸŸ’

  3. Wrote a sentence about it! ✍️

Example:

  • πŸ–️ Draw a ball

  • 🎨 Colour the ball brown

  • ✏️ “This is a brown ball.”

Then we added another ball:

  • “There are two balls.” 🎾🎾

🧐 Upon reflection, I realised the sentence pairs were a little mismatched πŸ˜…:

Instead of:

“This is a brown ball.”
“There are two balls.”

It should be:

✅ “This is a brown ball.”

✅ “These are brown balls.”

OR

✅ “There is a brown ball.”

✅ “There are two brown balls.”

Oh dear! πŸ˜… SILLY ME! 🫣 I’ll do better next time! πŸ’ͺ✏️

All in all, it felt soooo good to be back in the classroom πŸŽ‰πŸ’—. I missed being with the learners, and their warm welcome reminded me why I love this job so much πŸ₯°πŸŽ.

Here’s to more magical classroom moments ahead! πŸŒŸπŸŒ±πŸ“š✨
