First Days with 2Z πΏ✨
Saturday, June 14, 2025
This week, I had the pleasure of meeting Class 2Z for English ππ. First classes are always a mix of excitement and curiosity—on both sides! ππ€ But starting with smiles π and a bit of structure π really helps ease everyone in.
Before we dived into anything, I took a moment to let them know how sorry I was for being away for so long π’π¬. I explained that I had broken my wrist π€ and their responses were so sweet it melted my heart ππ₯Ή.
They asked the kindest little questions:
-
“Does it still hurt, teacher?” π₯Ί
-
“Can you write yet?” ✍️
And some just gave me big, warm smiles π. It was such a lovely moment of connection π€π«.
I also reminded them gently to be careful in the bathroom π»π§Ό—accidents can happen so fast, especially on slippery floors! π¬π¦ Safety first, always! ππ
We kicked off the English lesson with a cheerful greeting πΆ and a quick intro. I gave them a light vocabulary warm-up π§ —nothing too heavy, just classroom language we’ll be using a lot π¬π️.

Plan to do it every day! |
Then it was group work time! π§π€π§π©π§π¦
We explored the calendar together—day, date, month π π️. I asked them to brainstorm what they already knew π§ π and invited brave volunteers to write on the board π§π«✏️. The enthusiasm was so lovely to see! ππ
Next up: Spell-Robic! πΊπ£
We got moving and grooving with the days of the week and the months of the year ππ️π°️. I’ve featured Spell-Robic before, but I’ll definitely post a demo video π₯ soon—it’s way easier to show than tell! π π¬
Midway through, I introduced our class attention-getter:
π€ “1-2-3, eyes on me!”
π “1-2-3, eyes on you!”
We practised it a few times and had so much fun with it ππ§♀️. It really helped us get our focus back quickly! ✨
We ended the day with a vocab revision on parts of houses π πͺπ️. Most of them nailed it! πͺ Which means… I think we’re ready to tackle those exam questions next week! π―π
The next day, we dove into colours π¨π and items from the textbooks. I used my iPad to project images π²πΌ️, and we used them to build sentences together ✍️π.
We:
-
Drew the object ✏️
-
Coloured it based on instructions π€π΄π’
-
Wrote a sentence about it! ✍️
Example:
-
π️ Draw a ball
-
π¨ Colour the ball brown
-
✏️ “This is a brown ball.”
Then we added another ball:
-
“There are two balls.” πΎπΎ
π§ Upon reflection, I realised the sentence pairs were a little mismatched π :
Instead of:
“This is a brown ball.”
“There are two balls.”
It should be:
✅ “This is a brown ball.”
✅ “These are brown balls.”
OR
✅ “There is a brown ball.”
✅ “There are two brown balls.”
Oh dear! π SILLY ME! π«£ I’ll do better next time! πͺ✏️
All in all, it felt soooo good to be back in the classroom ππ. I missed being with the learners, and their warm welcome reminded me why I love this job so much π₯°π.
Here’s to more magical classroom moments ahead! ππ±π✨
