Mystery Skype: Off we go to JAPAN!

Thank you to SK Tapu for volunteering! I am eternally grateful for the cooperation and commitment that you have shown from the inception to the execution of the event.
21 year six pupils participated in the activity. They consisted of learners with different level of proficiency and we take this into consideration when we assigned them roles.
The activity was executed successfully. Pupils managed to ask questions as planned and able to guess the location of the others easily. They looked for verbal and non-verbal clues throughout the session. However, the internet connection was poor resulting in multiple disconnections. Towards the end of the call, we decided to send three Skype videos as a conclusion to the activity.
During the debriefing session, the pupils reflected on their feelings and all of them were happy to contribute and participate. The learners also reflected on their strengths and weaknesses throughout the session. The reflection session proved that this activity managed to discover pupils’ talent and develop interpersonal and interpersonal intelligence.

Pupils responses are:
The things that went well:
- Can talk with Japanese people
Things that were hard:
- Bad connection
- Repeating questions
- Cannot hear
- Cannot understand
What would make hard things become easy?
- Use sign holders
- Ask them to repeat
I learned about:
- How to use map
- Communication with new friends
- Working in groups
I love the way Mystery Skype help learners to experience a new environment. By participating, they learn to utilize their language skills in order to understand others. In addition, learners are exposed to different expectations such as speaking and performing in front of others. What I saw at SK Tapu was promising because the pupils tried their best although I saw uncomfortable faces and gestures, they did not turn their backs but kept on until the end. I am proud of these children and I wish them the best in their life.
