From Cardboard Boxes to the Deep Blue Sea ππ¦✨: Crafting Uwais’s Story

Sometimes, the most meaningful projects begin with a mother’s quiet hope π
This week, I created a personalised storybook for my son, Uwais π¦π — a boy with a HUGE imagination, a creative little heart, and a reading journey that has not always been easy.
Uwais is currently in a remedial class, and reading can feel really difficult for him sometimes π§️π. As a mother, there are moments when your heart quietly aches watching your child struggle with something other children seem to do so naturally.
But one thing I never wanted him to believe was this:
✨ “Difficult” does NOT mean “impossible.” ✨
I wanted him to know that if he keeps trying, keeps practising, keeps believing in himself… he can learn to read too π
And that was how Uwais and the Sea of Words was born πππ
Building a Story Around Himπ ️π¨π¦
Everything started with who Uwais already is — not what he struggles with π
This boy LOVES creating things π✨
Cardboard boxes π¦
Paper scraps ✂️
Fluffy wires π§΅
Tiny random treasures from around the house π©
Suddenly, they become giant monsters, prototypes, inventions, and legendary creatures with dramatic names like El Gran Maja π² and the Bloop πΎ
Honestly, watching his imagination work feels like watching a tiny movie director living inside our house π¬π
So instead of forcing him into a “normal” hero story, I built the story around HIS world π✨
Because children deserve to see themselves as capable before they can believe they can grow π
Turning Reading Into an Adventure πππ
I did not want the book to feel like homework π
I wanted reading to feel magical ✨
So difficult words became tangled vines πΏ
Scary pages became giant waves π
And confusing letters became sea monsters hiding deep in the ocean ππ
Instead of “fighting reading,” Uwais goes on an adventure through it ⚓✨
And just like he builds his inventions piece by piece, he learns words piece by piece too π§©π
Slowly.
Patiently.
Bravely πͺπ
Because that is the message I wanted him to carry in his heart:
π You do not need to become perfect overnight.
π You just need to keep trying.
A Mother’s Quiet Wish ππ
I think many parents understand this feeling.
When your child struggles academically, you quietly worry π
Will they compare themselves to others?
Will they think they are “less smart”?
Will the world misunderstand them?
But children are SO much more than one struggle π
Uwais is creative π¨
Curious π
Funny π
Inventive ⚙️
Sensitive π
And absolutely overflowing with ideas ✨
I wanted this story to remind him that struggling with reading does not make him less intelligent.
It simply means his journey may take a little longer πΆπ
And that is okay.
More Than Just a Storybook π✨
By the end, Uwais and the Sea of Words became more than just a reading project π
It became my way of telling my son:
✨ “I believe in you.” ✨
We used larger fonts π , simpler sentence structures π, and anime-inspired visuals π✨ to make the book feel less overwhelming and more welcoming for him.
Because sometimes, before children need pressure…
They need hope first π
Created with endless love for my dear Uwais ππ¦✨
May you always remember: every great reader begins one word at a time ππ
